SUMMER FITNESS TRAINING
Fitness and technical training for goalkeepers 14 years and older begins Monday, June 11 and continues three times a week at DyessPark through the summer until August 9. Coach Jim Walker will meet those keepers and field players who are registered at The Far Pavilion, the north end concessions area, at 9am for a short orientation and to begin conditioning WITHOUT the ball. You will be advised when your pal, the ball, can accompany you. Please bring water, comfortable running shoes, and a positive attitude. Focus of this program is to prepare keepers and field players for high school and college soccer. This conditioning program aims to improve whatever your fitness level so that you can meet the demands of high school and college coaches. Summer conditioning has been conducted for many years as an organized program by the Keeper Club's Jim Walker, with guest appearances by specialized coaches. Keeper Club alumnus Jonathan Kauffman will assist on a regular basis and other Keeper! members invited to appear as guest assistants are Brandon Renken, Heather Koudelka, Patty Walrath, Michael Sicola, John Kowalczyk and Sabrina Pasier, all of whom have participated previously in the summer program. It's a technical program, too, with lots of skill work for keepers and attackers. Conditioning sessions will meet Mondays at 9am, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm, ending Aug. 9. The fee is $100, with a $50 discount for Keeper Club members and Dynamos' players. Once registered, keepers and field players may attend as many sessions as they choose during the summer. You may register by completing the registration form found on the home page of this website and mailing it with a check payable to Dynamos Summer Fitness to: Dynamos Keeper Club, 10924 Grant Rd. #224, HoustonTX77070. KEEPERTALK
Aaron Austin came up big for the U14 Dynamos, making key saves as his team steamed to the South Texas Cup championship at San Angelo. Later, Aaron was the keeper as the same Dynamos captured the U14 championship at the Albion Hurricanes Memorial Day Cup tournament. . .High fives to Keeper Club trainers selected at tryouts for 2012-2013 Dynamos teams, namely Bryce and Wyatt Fredrickson, Dylan and Brady Stonebraker, Ayden Bridges, Allyson Crouch, Mia Posey, Maddie Saucedo, Jason Marsh, Marissa Mills, Payton Salinas, and Rodrigo Silos. . .Former Keeper Club member Shelby Edmiston has been presented Cy-Creek HS's Mark of Excellence Award, highest honor given at the school, as a tribute for the example she set during four years at the high school. Shelby was chosen by the faculty for her leadership, academics, athletics, community service and integrity. Her name will be added to Cy-Creek's "Wall of Honor." She also was selected to deliver the commencement address May 31 at the BerryCenter. Shelby is headed to Texas A&M for a major in chemical engineering. , ,Thanks to Jonathan Kauffman for his help at training sessions in May after his return from college. The big guy got in plenty of running at DyessPark before the sessions began, then showed his patience and outstanding ability to relate to the young keepers. We'll see a lot of him during summer conditioning work at Dyess Park. . .Heather Koudelka, Keeper Club alum and regular instructor at summer goalkeeper camps, had this to report on a recent Facebook: "So I get home from my soccer game to find a bird has decided to park his lil butt in my lint trap behind the wall and will NOT shut up! For those of you who know my fear of birds realize that this is a big problem for me," She explained that maintenance personnel didn't consider it an emergency so wouldn't respond until the following day. "Hoped he (the bird) would decide to shut his trap so I could sleep, but nooo, it got in the way of me resting for game the next morning." Coach Walker suggested that Heather imagine the bird in her ear reminding her to focus, and requested that she relate her bird tale to keepers this summer. . .A surprise visitor to keeper training in May was Brenden (Chubbs) Kowalski, not a goalkeeper but a former Dynamos player who often assisted in the past. Brenden plays at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. . .Talk with Glenn Davis and other soccer aficionados (713-212-5790) on AM Radio 790 Mondays on "Dynamos All Access," 8-10pm, and "Soccer Matters" 8-9pm Tuesdays; they can be accessed also on IHEART radio and the podcasts go up at Sports790.com and on ITUNES. . .Please send items of interest for Keeper! or KeeperTalk, to jwalker332@aol.com.

Opinion
CECH THIS: BEST IN WORLD?
For anyone still in doubt, Petr Cech has solidified himself as the best goalkeeper in the world. In the Champions League final, Cech played his best game of the year, and saved the game for Chelsea. Against Manuel Neuer, whom many consider the best in the world, Cech outperformed his counterpart just enough to win the European title. Didier Drogba made incredible plays, the bright spot in Chelsea's attack. However, the game was about defense, and Cech's dominance was the biggest story. As Bayern Munich mounted attack after attack, Cech stood stoic in goal. He made easy saves, difficult saves and improvisational saves. And that was just in regulation. In extra time, he lined up against Arjen Robben, looking as confident as ever. After Drogba foolishly clipped Ribery in the box, Robben was taking a penalty to win the trophy. Cech faked left, right and dove to his left, making an incredible save. He over-dove the shot, but turned his body enough to knock the ball down. Then he had the presence to pounce on it before Robben could knock it in. In penalties, Cech guessed correctly each time, and got his hand to a couple. After four shots, Bastian Schweinsteiger had to be thinking about the keeper as he stepped up. After a stutter step, he pushed his shot too far and into the post. After playing well for the whole game, Cech was a beast during penalty kicks. He made a key save, and he surely got into the mind of Bayern's best player. There are only a few goalkeepers that can make big-time saves. There are even fewer that can save penalties. Then there are even fewer that are clutch enough to save their team. Cech did all those things. He was spectacular for the last few months of the season, culminating with psyching out Schweinsteiger. Cech's clutch performance put him over the top.--Dan Renfro, Bleacher Report

QUOTABLE
"I can't do it" never yet accomplished anything: "I will try" has accomplished wonders.-- George P. Burnham
TIP OF THE MONTH
If as a young keeper you are quiet and hesitate to speak out on the field, begin in training and pre-game warmups to shout (on shots that require a call) "Kee-purr!" when you are coming out of goal for the ball or "Away" when your teammates need to know the ball is their responsibility. This will help you break the ice and become accustomed to speaking out during games. Being afraid to say the wrong thing is one reason for many beginning keepers to stay mum, but it is important that you expand your vocabulary on the field to be instructive, and positive, to your teammates.

KEEPING SECRETS
"What ought one to say then as each hardship comes? I was practicing for this, I was training for this."--Epictetus, Greek philosopher who undoubtedly discovered Keeping Secrets as he took a turn or two in goal sometime his lifetime--55-135AD
