TROI STORY
A JOURNEY TO SWEDEN
By Troi Jorgensen
(Editor’s Note: Troi Jorgensen played with the Dynamos, joining Keeper Club training at the age of 10. Through the years, she became more sure she wanted to excel at the keeper position, but realized she was vertically challenged at 5-6. so she focused on becoming “bigger,“ improving her strength, agility, vertical leap, and timing. The extra hours of work paid off for Troi, who had an impressive high school career at Cy-Creek HS, four highly successful years as a starter at St. Edward’s University, and now an opportunity to play as a professional.) Coming into my senior and fourth season of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II soccer at St. Edwards University, I had a feeling this was going to be our best year yet! With a fully-stacked squad of 31 quality players, we fulfilled that promise, making history! We went 17-2-2 for the season and 9-1-0 in the Heartland Conference. The Hilltoppers had a cumulative goals against average of 0.61 for the season and a total of 11 shutouts. I played in 18 games, starting 14, and held a GAA of 0.53 and gave up only six goals in 1,027 minutes. We went on to win the Heartland, dominated in the Sweet Sixteen tournament, and reached the Elite Eight. Because of our top ranking in the region, we hosted these tournaments at our home field in Austin. While our season ended at the Elite Eight, we had posted the best season in St. Edward’s University history! On our team was Emilia Gothe, from Sweden. Her father, Peter Gothe, is coach of Vasalunds IF, a semi-professional club in Sweden, that for the next two years will be playing in Sweden’s highest league, the Damallsvenskanm, or Premier League. Coach Gothe had visited the U.S. and St. Edwards in mid-season to see his daughter and to watch our team play. After our season, my four-year roommate and teammate, Kelly Boyd, and I were invited to play for Coach Gothe and Vasalunds IF this year from August through October. We are both very fortunate and excited about this opportunity. We depart July 10 to acclimate ourselves to Scandinavia. Pre-season begins July 21 and league play opens July 31 and runs into October. I am very excited about this next chapter of my soccer career. I will keep you updated on how the season and team is doing.

RODRIGO WINS KEEPER KWIZ
Last month’s Keeper Kwiz asked keepers to call on their nimble minds to answer this question: Nigel’s mother has three children. She also has three coins to give them and hands them out as follows: Penny receives a penny; Nicholas receives a nickel; the other child receives a dime. What is the name of the child who received the dime? Clever answers include “Dimetrious” and “Diamond.” The answer, of course, is “Nigel.” There were a number of correct answers, but the winner of the drawing is Rodrigo Silos, who receives a $25 gift certificate for Chick-fil-A. For your opportunity in this month's drawing for a $25 gift certificate for Soccer-4-All, all you have to do is answer this question: Who said “Wherever you go, go with all your heart”? Answer is elsewhere in this newsletter. Email your answer to JWalker332@aol.com.

KEEPERTALK
High fives to Kacie Paine, who provided high level goalkeeper work for the Under-15 Super Two Dynamos of Coach Troy Hutcheson, winners of the South Texas Director’s Cup championship last month. Kacie yielded only two goals in three games, one each in two 1-1 ties, and tossed a shutout in the 2-0 finale. Two weeks later, Kacie and the U15 girls won another title at the Memorial Day Cup, as Kacie came up big in championship shootout. . .Kennedy McGill broke her arm in a game May 1 and although facing at least nine weeks on the sidelines, continued to attend team practices and Keeper Club training. Her cheerful presence and helpful tips at goalkeeper training proved to be an inspiration to younger keepers. . .Judah Craft, a field player with the U15 Dynamos, was a valuable assistant at Thursday keeper training in early May. . .Noah Schroer uses his hands not only to corral shots, but in his music, too, playing the snare drum for Tomball’s Northpointe Intermediate band. . .The brothers Austin, Aaron and Nathanel, are regulars at keeper training and Nathanel often does double duty; instead of just hanging out while waiting for Junior Keepers, he joins in with the big guys, and holds his own. Former Keeper Club member Sabrina Pasier, who reported for training when college classes ended this month, played for the St. Edward’s University women’s club team this spring and also was named Undergraduate Management Student of the Year at a recent ceremony. . .Troi Jorgensen visited training on May 26 and chatted with Aaron Austin, Nathanel Austin, Sabrina Pasier and Noah Schroer about following their dreams. . ..If you have items of interest for Keeper! or for KeeperTalk, please email to jwalker332@aol.com.

QUOTABLE
Wherever you go, go with all your heart.--Confucius

TIP OF THE MONTH
Height indeed has advantages for a goalkeeper, especially in corralling crosses, covering the space above and behind, and being formidable in shooting situations, but it is doesn’t determine ability. Working on technique, strength, muscular power and agility can make the difference.

KEEPING SECRETS
Whatever you do, don't "just get rid of it!" Learn the options of how to distribute the ball in matches, be patient and accept that mistakes, both in
technique and decision-making, will be made in the beginning. And don‘t give up. Punting should be a tactical weapon; throwing is more accurate in helping your team maintain possession.
