Summer Fitness
‘FUN’ IN THE SUN
The Keeper Club's annual Summer Conditioning and Technical Program for goalkeepers begins June 14 (week after U14-U18 tryouts) and continues at Dyess Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays (6pm-7:15pm) through August 4. This is a progressive curriculum for boys and girls 14 years and older preparing for high school and college soccer, focusing on the demanding "keeper work" that will help keepers compete at a higher level. Jim Walker again will direct the program, with guest trainers invited to handle special assignments. Fee for the entire summer is $125, with a $25 discount for Keeper Club members; $200 for those not playing for Dynamos or Cy-Fair Youth Soccer Club teams. A limited number of field players and underage goalkeepers will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration form below can be copied and mailed. For more information, email jwalker332@aol.com or call 281-217-1612.

LOOKING BACK
2006--Ex- Dynamos goalkeeper Heather Koudelka was named to the first team All-Heartland Conference team after a season in which she posted a goals-against average of 0.57 and won 13 of 15 decisions for St. Edward's University. (Dr. Koudelka is a current Summer Goalkeeper Camp instructor)
2008--The Keeper! Club opened season No. 15 with a new look—for the first time two trainers will conduct regular training sessions. The addition is Roland Sikinger, a former U. S. Olympic and professional goalkeeper who is a regular trainer with the Dynamos. (Roland currently directs Thursday sessions, while Jim Walker trains on Mondays).

WE GET QUESTIONS:
“Do we have to dive?”
“When can we fly?”
“Should I wash my gloves? They are really stinky.”
“My coach said to ask you why it’s taking so long to make me a goalkeeper?”
”Coach, when do you think I’ll get tall?”
“Awww, why can’t we play keeper golf?”
“When is it your turn in goal, coach?”

KeeperTalk
High fives to current and past Keeper Club members Grace Ehrenfeld, Samantha Nichols, Claire Juenke, Andy Garcia, Ben Jones, Zach Cannon, Daniel Bridges, Andrew Nelson, Noah Bar, Cole Howard, Emma Bell, Caitlyn Burrell, Amber Zlatich and Maison Bell, awarded Dynamos Select team roster slots after May tryouts for U11, U12, and U13 teams. . .Many thanks for their assistance at Junior Keeper sessions during the spring season to Ashlyn Brewer, Isobel Herrod, and Steven Franke, all of whom continued their own training while helping younger keepers. . . A tip of the hat to Roli the Goalie (Roland Sikinger) for another great job as Keeper Club trainer who not only tutors our keepers but directs training for many Dynamos teams and coaches games every weekend. . .U. S. men's national team goalkeeper Brad Guzan soon could be back in Major League Soccer, SI.com reports. Guzan, according to contributor Franco Panizo, is set to leave Aston Villa this summer after the club was relegated from the English Premier League. The 31-year-old supposedly has two English top-division clubs interested in him, but, if he gets the right offer, is willing to return to MLS where he began his pro career. In a quest to set the record for the longest soccer game ever, two soccer teams and 2,357 players took part for 120 hours in Santiago, Chile, with the white team prevailing over the blue team, 505-504, as reported by Associated Press. Even though it lasted longer than a 105-hour match in Scotland last year, that record still stands because Guinness didn’t certify the length of the latest match, according to Reuters. . .Answer to the quiz question for May was “Do the Simple Things Right” which was the issue’s Tip of the Month, and the winner of the drawing for a $25 gift card is: Grace Ehrenfeld! Quiz question for June is: What four-word phrase is repeated four times in this month’s “Keeping Secrets”? Answer with just the four words by emailing jwalker@dynamossoccer.com for entry in the June drawing for a $25 gift card.

QUOTABLE
“Let us not look back in anger or forward in fear, but around in awareness.”—James Thurber

TIP OF THE MONTH
Stay off those knees! This is not proper technique in fielding a rolling ball. Too often, a beginning keeper will drop to either one or both knees and wait for the ball. Too many things, mostly bad, can happen. The ball can take a bad hop, an opponent can get to the ball first, and it makes the transition from defense to attack more difficult and much slower. Getting to the ball quickly and fielding it while on your feet enables a keeper to ignite the attack much more quickly. If a keeper must leave their feet, do it with proper diving technique.

KEEPING SECRETS
GO to the ball. Go TO the ball. Go to THE ball. Go to the BALL. Don’t wait for it!
JUST SAY ‘NO!’ TO GOALS
