PARTY TIME FOR KEEPERS!
For years it was called the “White Elephant” gift exchange, hoping to attract some nice elephants to our party. We tried everything--held it outside, inside, in rain, in the cold--but the pachyderms, white, gray, black, or blue, never showed. To make matters worse, they advised through attorneys they no longer wanted their name associated with this event. So several years ago, we changed it to the “Krazy Keeper” gift exchange, and you know what? The white elephants continued to stay away and no crazy keepers show up either. Lots of keepers, but most are entirely sane. Keepers, crazy or no, are so much more fun than elephants, anyway. This year’s 16th annual Christmas party will be held Thursday, December 16, at Dyess Park‘s Far Pavilion (north concession area) if weather permits, in the softball building at the double stop signs if raining. All keepers, past, present, and soon-to-be’s--are invited for a training session starting at 5 o’clock, followed by pizza, drinks, and the gift swap at 6 o’clock.
We Get Questions
“Is this 6 o’clock in the morning?” one maybe-crazy keeper asked. Answer: No, it is an evening event.
“What if I’m not crazy?” inquired another worried keeper, “can I still attend?” A: Certainly, we can use a little sanity around here anyway.
“Can I bring something?” was another question. A: Glad you asked! The only requirement for admission is something wrapped, a useless item you would prefer to be in somebody else’s possession by party’s end, or a thing purchased for less than $10.
This is where krazy comes in and these “gifts” will be distributed randomly and are subject to negotiation. Also, keepers and/or their parents are welcome (read that “urged”) to bring desserts to top off the food table. If any readers can lend a hand that night, advise via email (jwalker332@aol.com) or call 281-217-1612.

COLLEGE HONORS FOR TROI
Fulfilling a long-held dream to play at a high level, Keeper Club alumnus Troi Jorgensen concluded her collegiate career at St. Edward’s University with high honors. Proving keepers don’t have to be tall for success, Troi was named to the all-Heartland Conference first team and all-South Central Region second team, and helped lead the Hilltoppers to conference and regional championships as St. Edward’s reached the NCAA’s Division Two Elite Eight for the first time ever before bowing to the University of California-San Diego, 1-0. She led the Heartland Conference with a 0.46 goals against average, posting three full shutouts and participating in nine other clean sheets. Troi ranked 11th nationally among goalkeepers.
Kristi Sparkles, Too
“A lot of the credit goes to KK (Kristi Koudelka),” an exhausted Coach Matt Yelton said minutes after his Lee University squad survived a full game, two overtime periods (110 minutes) and eight rounds of a shootout to advance to the championship round of the Southern States Athletic Conference last week. Lee sophomore Clair Lanter nailed her shootout kick, and senior keeper Koudelka stopped Auburn-Montgomery's attempt to send the thriller to a ninth round. The match officially goes on record as a tie with Lee winning the nerve-wrecking shootout, 6-5, for advancement. “She stepped up and made three huge saves in the shootout,” said Coach Yelton. Kristi went the distance in Lee’s 2-1 victory Monday (November 29) over the University of Mobile to reach the quarterfinals of the NAIA national tournament. Lee is defending national champion.
Other Campus Notes. . .
In an early November matchup pitting former Keeper Club members Troi Jorgensen and Mari Edwards in opposite corners, Mari’s St. Mary’s University squad upset Troi’s favored St. Edward’s University, 1-0. Troi played the first half for St. Ed’s, while Mari appeared as a defender late in the first half, then moved to goalkeeper early in the second half. It was the first loss of the season in 18 games for Troi’s Hilltoppers, and Mari’s Rattlers raised their record to 10-7-2 with the victory. . .Keeper Club and Dynamos alum Jono Rumfield wrapped up his season as a sophomore midfielder at Southwestern Assemblies of God (Waxahachie), where another ex-Dynamos player, Brendan Kowalski, is a freshman defender. . .Hannah Legler finished her season as Navy’s goalkeeper with a 5-5-3 record and a 1.10 goals against average, appearing in 18 games. Hannah is a 5-10 sophomore from Cy-Fair HS. . .Jonathan Kauffman (Ouachita Baptist U.) and Dustin Marsh (Schreiner U.) both saw action in goal as sophomores.

KEEPERTALK
High fives to Trevor Gibson, Grant Steppe, Kacie Paine and Calvin Anderson for their hard work on crosses and corners during a late November session. The following week, the same four, plus Kevin Hobart and Mallory Majewski, took the next step in mastering deep crosses. . .Jorge Toledo, a member of the Junior Keepers, worked out with the bigger guys and gals in the final pre-Thanksgiving session, showing his fearless diving technique and willingness to go for the tough ones. . .Although hampered by injuries, Kaylee Barrett continued to answer the call in goal for her team and helped lead the U14 Dynamos to a second place finish in the Thanksgiving tournament at Meyer Park. . .Bryant Munoz, who is trying out as a field player with the U15 Dynamos, was a faithful assistant during fall keeper sessions; others who helped out were Aleks Alanis and Chris Gibson with the older keepers, and Sophie Frusco, who assisted with the Junior Keepers. . .Look for the Keeper Club to present a B. Y O. K . (Bring Your Own Goalkeeper) workshop at Dyess Park in January. This is an opportunity for coaches and parents to learn ways to help their goalkeeper(s) to prepare for games and come through when most needed.  . .For the tops in soccer talk, check out Glenn Davis on Mondays from 7-9pm with the Dynamo All Access talk show and again on Tuesdays from 7-8pm with news and interviews. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
“You can’t do it.” “You’re not good enough.” “Don’t even try.” “Who do you think you are?” “You’ll never make it.” “Settle down.” “You don’t deserve it.” Somebody better than you should have it!”--Coach Jack Canfield, quoting the vulture of unworthiness sitting on your shoulder.
When the kitten looks in the mirror, she sees a lion looking back. When a striker looks up to set a target, he or she should see a hulking steely-eyed bigger-than-life figure with oversized hands looking back. Gracious, that’s you! Believe in yourself.--Keeper Club’s recipe for preparation.

QUOTABLE
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship--Louisa May Alcott
“Good things happen to players who train hard.”--Goalkeeper guru Tony DiCicco

TIP OF THE MONTH
Stay poised. When all else on your team is falling apart, the keeper must stay composed throughout the whole game. Poise can be demonstrated verbally and physically. A keeper’s body language tells volumes, especially after conceding a goal. Good keepers do not self-destruct under pressure. Your teammates are looking to you for leadership and you must lead by example.

KEEPING SECRETS
Cutting out a cross that targeted for a striker’s head isn’t considered a save because it isn’t a direct shot on goal, but it’s just as valuable. Being alert enough to dominate your area is critical and your save of a cross and distribution of the ball to start an attack is significant.
